5 Reasons Why You Should Spend More Time On LinkedIn

To many people, LinkedIn is a mere social network, where people with jobs comment on certain posts, spend time, endorse each other, and brag about their achievements. That is not a bad way to put it. But imagine this; imagine you walk into a large room through a blue door, and in this room, there are CEOs, top company executives, specialists in various fields, people just like you, and many other people who are more advanced in their careers than you are.

If you can imagine yourself in that room, you will realize that you have a lot of choices; keep quiet and stay on your own, talk to people just like you, network with individuals more advanced in their careers, perform quick interviews with top executives or just leave the room to go do something else.

If career growth is important to you, you will quickly see this as an opportunity to improve your career. LinkedIn is that large room with the blue door.

The Truth About Working From Home

Recently, at a hang out with a colleague we got chatting about work, life and all that comes with it. A long time ago, I might have said I wanted a job where I would have to go into the office every day. That day though, sitting and having a conversation between two ladies who just wanted to catch up on a couple of drinks, we both agreed that it’s truly a good benefit to have the option to work from home aka ‘WFH’.

It’s really encouraging when you have employers that see the value in providing work from home options as a benefit because it’s really a competitive advantage. Especially with how busy life can get, it’s of importance that you have some work-life balance. Having this option helps an employee feel valued and not feel like just a seat warmer.

It’s important for employers to realize that the quality of your work isn’t determined by how often you show up in the office but in your results. Many companies are now adopting this approach and it’s only getting even better as most companies now offer this as an unlimited option, meaning that employment options are getting better.

Why Heading Into A Niche Is A Good Thing

Maybe you’re at odds with your current job, and you want to find something niche you would be more suited for. You’re not the only one, in fact, your boat is overcrowded. Many people want to work in their particular industry but haven’t been able to find a job that they find is going to allow them to be at their best.

This is where niche roles come into play because despite being in the same industries, they offer something different and off the beaten path. But what is a niche job exactly? Clearly, it’s something that isn’t part of the norm and offers something that is not going to be for everyone. On the other hand, it can also be deemed more specialist, something that requires unique skills that are hard to come by.

Why Employers Still Value Grit

Grit is a quality we don’t often talk about these days. It seems somehow old fashioned and a bit harsh. But grit (or determination) is vital for success in today’s workplace, both for the individual and the team at large. Someone with grit never gives up, no matter how hard the stakes get.

That can be at a personal level, perhaps as an athlete. But we would also recognize grit as camaraderie and working for a higher good, despite whatever insecurities or hardships the individual is experiencing. That’s why we often think of soldiers when we hear the word grit. World War II was full of tales of grit and courage in the face of the adversity.
