Landing a job is not easy to say the least. This is especially the case when you work in a challenging or even competitive business. If you want to boost your chances, then you need to do everything you can to focus on making yourself as appealing as possible to potential employers.
Be Creative when you Write your Resume
The first thing that you need to do is go over your resume. Someone in HR might spend 10 seconds or less scanning over your CV, so you need to make it look impressive and you also need to make it stand out from the rest too. This will help to give you a competitive advantage and it will also help you to really feel confident.
Don’t Ignore your Cover Letter
Your cover letter is ultimately a representation of your personality. Recruiters will use it to try and determine if you are actually qualified for the job. You have to remember that your cover letter can easily spell out the difference between success and failure, so communicate your qualifications and passion for the job clearly. If you don’t feel as though you are as qualified as you could be then get started with a doctor of occupational therapy degree if you are applying to the healthcare industry, or even try and seek out other training opportunities.
Emphasize your Strengths
A lot of applicants make the mistake of creating their resume in such a way that it looks like a job description. If you want to spice up your resume, then you need to emphasize your strengths and your accomplishments too. Show in detail what you have accomplished and also make sure that you put down what you did in your previous job too. This will help you to give the HR manager a sense of the person you are and the role that you are able to fill.
Research
If you want to convince the company that you are applying to that you are perfect for the job, then you need to take it upon yourself to do your own due diligence. A lot of companies have their own site and when you go on there, you can easily find out more about their history and even their line of business. Take the time to read through this and determine what they are looking for.
Apply for More than a Single Job
A lot of applicants think that they can only apply for one job at a company. This isn’t true at all. If you feel as though you are more than qualified for multiple jobs, then try and make sure that you go for it. This will improve your chances of getting hired and if you make a good impression at the interview, you might even come away with a choice of which job you want.
Follow Up
When you have received all of your feedback from a company about the application you want, you can then follow it up. Some resumes might get overlooked or even misplaced and you need to make sure that yours is not one of them. If you do manage to go for the interview, then make sure that you follow up and ask them to find out if there is anything that you can do to try and improve, as well as thanking them for their time.

Having a LinkedIn profile will really give you the edge. It will also help you to find out who a company is looking for. If you know that you don’t have a LinkedIn account, then now is the time for you to change that as you could be missing out on various opportunities. When filling out your account, you have to make sure that your profile is complete and that you also include things like your education, work experience and even qualifications too.
Network
Networking is just as important as having a LinkedIn profile. If you have a network of contacts then this will really improve your chances of getting a job and you may even find that you are able to get your foot in the door by simply talking with some people who work at the company. There’s an abundance of online resources available for you to choose from at the end of the day, so make sure that you take advantage of them where possible. This will help you to increase your chances of getting a job while also helping you to really excel.
