Career Change, Entrepreneur's Workplace

Are Entrepreneurs also Employees?

In high school, I started my first business. I was finally going to call myself an entrepreneur!

I was in JSS. 3 at the time, my third year in junior high. Typically called ‘secondary school’ in Nigeria. I’m not sure what that’s called in Canada, but if you are non-Nigerian reading this, I guess you understand what I mean.

We were a group of friends. Somehow I’ve always had a clique of friends all through my schooling years.

Anyway, three of us decided to start a retail business. We were going to buy cookies and sweets in dozens and sell them in units. By the time we started selling the first set, we were barely making 4 cents in profit.

How to Handle an Overly Competitive Coworker

Don’t you just love a friendly competition? You and your coworkers or friends uplifting each other and breaking boundaries!

When Jamila left a comment at a previous post (read here) stating that she would like to see a post discussing how to deal with competition at work, I knew it was about time I drafted one (because I’ve had it on my mind for some time).

That not withstanding, I wanted to start out from a positive perspective before moving forward.

If that sounds cliché, I totally get it. Most people claim to be positive when in fact they are doing the extreme opposite. But it’s a better way to look at everything that has to do with life irrespective.

4 Doable Ways to Balance your Work/ Job and Relationships

When I decided to blog about balancing your work schedule with relationships of any form, I thought I was going to be the first person to write on it.

Or at least, one of the first few.

I thought to blog lightly in today’s post and discuss on more practical issues that affect most workers just as I did in my last video. Check out my video here.

As expected, the internet proved me wrong.

A little google research reminded me that there’s nothing new under the sun. Good news— everyone has a different take on the topic and that’s good enough for me!

So here’s me, giving you my two cents on this issue.

Ufuoma Okumagba : Business Specialist & Travel Blogger (23 Countries & Counting!)

Ufuoma Okumagba is one of those people that inspires me to actualize my travel goals. Asides the fact that she is a travel blogger and writes really well on travel related topics that I can relate to, she also works full-time.

I like the fact that she’s so down to earth through her posts and always willing to share.

Some years back, my mom ensured that she took my sister and I for our first trip outside the shores of Nigeria. We visited London, UK. That was when I fell in love with travel and vowed to travel often.

Making a Good Impression on your First Few Days at a New Job

I’m sure many of you know that I’m in my early twenties at least for now before October approaches and I’ve worked a number of new job(s). At that time, I’d most likely edit this post to read “in my mid-twenties”.

Or maybe not.

No, I won’t.

I want to remember that I really wanted to grow old in the past, get a job, etc. But now, I’ve realized that adulting is not an easy feat. And I want to go back to being a ‘mommy’s girl’.

Or better still, I want to remember my younger days.

These are the Top Workplace Distractions

A few years ago, we completed a project, and I remember how rewarding it felt. We had to research on workplace distractions, other HR issues, and possible solutions. Sometimes it’s not about the achievement or any of that.

It’s remembering the silly arguments you had just because you wanted to have a great project at the end of it all.

Refusing to forget the late evenings we spent with people we never imagined we’d stay that long with. It’s recalling that afterward, we all planned to spend the night at one’s house just baking.

We called it a ‘baking party’ at the time. I remember I fell ill and couldn’t make it to the party. Honestly, I wish I made it to the party.

No Motivation to Go to Work? Find it Here (Easy Peasy!)

Everyone loves to talk about how they lack motivation on their jobs. Okay, not everyone, but almost everyone.

Sometimes, I think some workers have become so used to complaining  so much that they don’t realize that it’s become the norm. Like, one can even hear their thoughts.

In a previous article, I discussed how to discover if you lack motivation, because I was of the opinion that that was the first step to take. But, I also feel that inspiration has a way of influencing motivation.

That explains why I started out the inspiration category on the blog. I was of the opinion that we all need something or someone to inspire us to seek out the best in life, which of course, would include our jobs!
