People often times confuse lack of motivation with needing a change of career. Motivation is the willingness to do something. The question then is: do you feel your job is mundane but deep within you, you know you want to continue with that job?
This is quite tricky. The point however is that you do not want to change your career/ job and later realize that you made a huge mistake. It is very possible that what you need may not be to quit your job. Rather, what you need is to work on your motivation.
I want to believe that if you are reading this article you do not need a career change. Rather, all you need is to increase your motivation so that you can be happy at your job. Additionally, you will be more productive once your motivation level is high.
“It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.”
Zinny Factor gives practical ways of solving several work related issues and that is what I will do in this article. To do this, you have to first discover if you really lack motivation. Here are two simple ways to find out. It’s a good start!
Ask your friends/ colleagues
Try to talk to people you are comfortable with and ask them if they think you love your job. Find out if you unintentionally complain to them regularly. Since you always talk to these people it could very well be that you have poured out your heart to them without even realizing it.
Take note of what they have to say. Ask them how you appear when talking about your job and whether you display enthusiasm.
Now that you have heard what they have to say, ask yourself some questions. Ask your friends first so that you can have a clear perception before making any decision.
Questions you may ask yourself are:
- Did I love my job before now or did I enjoy doing my work before now?
- Do I love my career path?
- Is this what I want to continue doing?
- Do I have moments when I still love my work?
- Do I do the same thing every day?
- Where do I see myself going in the next few years?
- Do I want to go far with my job duties in the next few years?
- Will I regret it if I quit my job?
You can go on and on. From the information you received from your friends, you should be able to raise more questions you can ask yourself. The whole idea is for you to determine that you love your job and then decide on ways to boost your energy at work.
You may need to write your thoughts down if needed. I realize that writing makes a lot of difference. I encourage you to write them down because you can always refer to it. If you eventually decide that you simply lack motivation, please read my article to learn ways to increase your motivation at work.
