6 Reasons why Most Workers Love their Jobs

A few months back, I received an email from a reader asking me to help give ideas on how to make employees feel engaged at work. It occurred to me at that instance that many employees feel disengaged from work. I should write on that and share my recommendations as a post on its own very soon in the future.

For the time being, I thought it’s also important to note that some people love their jobs and feel engaged. Knowing this means that you could also love your job if you search within, or that you can find out if there are reasons to love your job and this is a good sign if you ask me.

If you are an employer or in the management group, and reading this post, it’ll also be great for you to see reasons why most employees feel disengaged at work and maybe you can help resolve your organizational issues or challenges knowing this.

1. They feel challenged

I have often heard of how exciting and thrilling most workers find their challenges at work. What is fascinating to them is the fact that they still feel very much connected to this challenge and are of the notion that the challenge is something to look forward to.

It’s possible to have had a career change or swerve here and there, but somehow I find that people still remain attached to the initial challenge and this keeps them going.

2. Co-workers

It’s also evident from reports that most people find joy at their jobs because of their co-workers. The thought of going to work to share some precious moments with colleagues intrigues them and this brings some form of a positive vibe to them at work.

According to Globoforce’s Fall 2014 Workforce Mood Tracker survey, employees with friends at work are nearly three times more likely to say they love working at their company, and 89% of respondents said that work relationships are important to their quality of life.

It appears the quality of the team you work for may determine your happiness on the job.

3. Some form of freedom

Another reason why some people love their jobs is because of the liberty or autonomy they feel they derive from work. The freedom to make decisions, learn from errors and make contributions.

Another factor is the flexibility they have at work and this creates job satisfaction. People want the opportunity to make mistakes and learn because most people learn better from experimenting. People want to be entrepreneurial and if given this opportunity it may bring about love for their job

4. Time

Workers seem to love their jobs when they know that they also have time aside to do other non-work related activities. Time to attend to their personal affairs because they also believe that they have a life to live and family to spend time with. They appreciate having time to attend to their passions even if different from their industry. If workers feel that they have time, this helps reduce stress especially because they’d have more time to spend on hobbies and this can be really relaxing for them.

An organization that respects its employees enough to respect their time and hours would be loved by its workers.

5. Organizational Culture

Leadership or management style, visible components, values, goals, and objectives of a business all play important roles in the love a worker may have for his/ her job. The way employees are allowed to dress or communicate with each other affect levels of involvement or engagement a worker may have in an organization.

Most often, the workplace culture is entirely the responsibility of the employer, because the employer defines the culture of its organization, and this determines how employees react in the workplace. It determines whether there will be happiness among employees or not. It creates a feel in the atmosphere.

We all know the importance and benefits of creating a happy workplace for all employees. I can’t stress this enough; there will be increased productivity, profit, customer satisfaction, reduced turnover (which reduces expenses), and improved engagement.

6. Learning or Career growth

Another reason why people feel inclined to their jobs is because of the possibility of growth in several ways. This includes learning which can lead to a promotion or learning that leads them in the line of their desired career path. Even if an employee is contemplating changing career paths, if there are prospects of reaching that goal through the present job, there will still be that passion and fire in them for their present job.

No one wants to remain stagnant. Every determined person seeks growth in different ways which includes the workplace.

An organization that offers training and courses for its workers is most likely to be loved by them because the company is investing in their intellectual growth.
