Chronic stress can result in loss of sleep, high blood pressure, anxiety, and a possibly weakened immune system and can contribute to health conditions such as depression, obesity, and heart disease. All of these affect our mental health. Do not underestimate the power of your job/ work in how it affects your life.
Here are a few ways to relieve stress caused by work-related activities.
Schedule out time for rest and leisure each day
Some people believe that if they can put in more hours they’ll be able to achieve a lot more in a day. Unfortunately, this could reduce productivity which sort of negates the whole intention.
So as much as you can, schedule a few hours to relax your brain every day of the week. Take huge advantage of your break. Take a walk, play a game, read a book, do anything you can to take your mind away from work for a few minutes and then go back feeling much more focused.
Exercising regularly is a great way to keep your body and mind together because it releases endorphins as well as improve your sleep. So not only will you be improving your physique, you’ll be strengthening your mental health.
Caffeine is a stimulant that can be found in coffee, tea, energy drinks, etc. Many workers are fond of using caffeine to help stay productive during work hours and this works for most of them.
However, if you notice that you find it difficult to sleep, you might need to cut back on your caffeine intake to see if you are able to relieve your level of stress.
Sometimes all you need to do under a stressful condition at work is to breathe deeply. This will help calm down your nerves and any form of tension.
Set your priorities
If you have pressing deadlines at work, it’ll be a good idea to prioritize your tasks alongside the goals of your organization.
Try to have a to-do list of tasks for the day, that way you are able to cross off things from your list as soon as it’s completed.
This will go a long way in ensuring that you are not stressed since you have an idea of what task should come first.
You can also block off time on your calendar to schedule tasks and break your projects into smaller steps. It will help keep you organized and less stressed.

Look for meaning in your work
Your mental health is important. If you feel unsatisfied with your job, it’ll stress you out. Even if your job is mundane, try to discover the areas you love the most or areas where you are able to be of help to others to reduce the anxiety you feel.
If all fails then it’s about time you search for another job opportunity because your health should always come first. In the meantime, you can do things you love every other hour to keep your mind active.
Spend time with family as it improves mental health
Nothing beats time spent with friends and family. You are able to share how your day went in general and have someone who genuinely cares about you listen. Sometimes having someone to talk to lifts up the burden and improves your mental health since you have others who share in your worries.
